What is actually happening

If this started right after a filter change, the panel is the first suspect by a wide margin. Many units have an interlock that keeps the fan off while the cover reads open, and a filter seated slightly proud, or fitted the wrong way round, holds the cover a millimetre from closing. From outside everything looks shut.

If it did not follow a filter change, work outwards: the socket, the cable, then the unit. Purifiers are frequently plugged into switched sockets, extension leads and timers, and those fail more often than the appliance does.

A unit that starts and then stops by itself is a different symptom from one that never starts, and usually points at either a timer or sleep function doing what it was set to, or a protection cutting in.

Check these, in this order

The ones that cost nothing come first. Do not buy anything until you have been through them.

Open and reseat every filter, then close the cover firmly.

If it starts, the interlock was reading open. This is the most common cause when the problem followed a filter change.
Confirm the wrapper is off every new filter.

Besides blocking airflow, a wrapper can stop a filter seating deep enough for the cover to close.
Try a different socket, directly, with no extension or timer.

This isolates the appliance from the supply, and the supply is at fault more often than people expect.
Check whether a timer or sleep mode is set.

A unit that runs briefly and stops may simply be finishing a countdown somebody set.
Unplug for a minute and try again.

Clears a latched controller. If it then runs normally for days, it was a one-off; if it recurs quickly, it is a fault worth a warranty claim.
